ZONING

Zoning is a method of identifying different uses of land, dimensional standards for those uses and where they are most appropriate, considering public utilities, road access, and the established development pattern. Zoning ordinances are adopted by City Council and is law. The purpose of zoning is to protect the rights of property owners while promoting the general health, safety and welfare of the community and to implement the vision in the comprehensive plan.

The City of Tulsa recently adopted a new Zoning Code, which became effective on January 1, 2016.  The new code introduces several new zoning tools that allow more flexibility and streamlines the ability to achieve more modern development types.  The key changes introduced in the City of Tulsa’s new code are shown in these slides: Tulsa Zoning Code Slides
